22-year-old medical student Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal) has just taken a job as the night watch in the same forensic department where her parents were once almost killed by the famed psychopathic police inspector Wörmer. The events led to her mother's suicide, and her father Martin (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has turned to tranquilizers to suppress the memories. Determined to investigate what exactly happened to them, Emma tracks down and confronts Wörmer, only to unintentionally reawaken his bloodthirst and ignite a violent revenge on everyone who sealed his destiny years ago.

There is an uncomfortable urgency to the proceedings I immediately responded to, and the cat-and-mouse ending, while hardly novel, is stylishly crafted and overflows in genuine tension. Go to Full Review

Bornedal skips over jump scares and outright gore and leans more on moody cinematography and some surprises to make this a must watch. Go to Full Review

Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever is psychologically stimulating, pitting younger generations against familiar foes in this 30-years-later sequel. Go to Full Review

While not as sharp as the original and within its innate narrative madness is more predictable, but no less enjoyable. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

In this unexpected, stupendous sequel, Bornedal takes us three decades into the future from the events of the original and, while maintaining the same identity, offers something very different. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Ola G @Ollie1972 Dec 14 Almost 30 years later director Ole Bornedal decided to revisit his cult classic "Nattevagten" putting Martin's daughter (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) Emma (Fanny Leander Bornedal) in the centre and in many ways repeating the original storyline. It's a modernization of the story for good and bad and the film carries a somewhat arranged structure with the past coming back to haunt both Martin, Jens and Emma. The film doesn't really add anything new in this genre and it's also based on many sorts of clichés, but from a film quality perspective it's better than the original that felt a bit more amateurish. I was mostly impressed by the lovely Fanny Leander Bornedal. She is the highlight of the film. See more Alejandro C Apr 16 Una auténtica porquería de película. Muy decepcionado. Absolutamente lamentable 🥶 See more Bence S Feb 15 It's rare to see such a half-baked movie that makes you want to leave halfway through. Half the scenes don't contribute to the plot and although the name, it does not have anything to do with demons. Everything they do feels forced to have something to do with the plot and does not have a good dramatic effect. Would really not recommend See more Feb 6 Entertaining but couple of stupid scenes, (Spoiler Alert), like when Emma’s running away from the psycho and keeps running past the dead cop instead of picking up the handgun. I’m pretty sure a gun trumps a knife anyday. See more Solomon K 12/09/2024 Excellent thriller. Not one character felt two dimensional. You actually care who lives and who dies which is rare these days. Kept me guessing until the end. See more House R 11/24/2024 Good creepy fun that really lays on the tension and fear.
