When Tommy receives a phone call inviting his band to open for Green Day on New Years Eve, he doesn't realize it's an elaborate prank by his older brother, Wayne. Desperate to believe his life is about to change, Tommy steals Wayne's car and begins driving his band from Kansas City to Los Angeles, hell bent on getting there in three days. What follows is a rowdy and uproarious road trip across America, inspired by Green Day's early days of touring in a van, years before the release of their breakout record Dookie.

Critics Consensus

Driven by an energetic mix of Green Day hits and deep cuts, Nimrods overcomes its familiar road comedy elements with a charmingly scrappy DIY spirit and winning performances.

It genuinely understands what it means to have a dream so near you that you’re willing to do anything to make it happen. Go to Full Review

What follows is a standard-issue road movie in which the boys get into all sorts of adventures, many of which have been depicted in better movies. Go to Full Review

It’s the sort of film where whimsical happenstance verges on outright fantasy. Go to Full Review

Nimrods is an entertaining comedy with the attitude of teen rebellion and the wistfulness of teenage dreams in this madcap road-trip comedy about a young rock band that's been fooled into thinking the band was chosen as Green Day's opening act. Go to Full Review

The movie has such little interest in moving beyond anything but the most basic version of this story. Go to Full Review

Green Day fans will get the biggest kick out of it, but you don’t have to be a diehard to appreciate Kirk’s message behind the madness: friendship, music, youthful stupidity and chasing your dreams. Go to Full Review

Christopher 2h great movie I definitely recommend it See more Brett B 7h My favorite Road Trip Movie… BY FAR!! Green Day appearing in the movie was a bonus!! See more GD Fan 10h As much as I am a huge Green Day fan, this movie’s script misses the mark. Like Lee Kirk’s previous film involving BJA, Ordinary World, the film spends very little time on character establishment and development - frequently rushing through what should be critical emotional beats and simmering too long in scenes that don’t add to the overarching storyline. Also, like OW, there are several plot points in the film that never pay off (like McKenna Grace’s character writing on Tommy’s shirt). This movie didn’t need a higher budget, it needed a better storyteller who knows how to get the audience emotionally invested in the outcome. See more Rosemary 1d liked the movie! wish we had more mckenna grace since she on the poster. love it See more Juan 1d Not a Green Day fan. Only went to see it because it was the only thing left in theaters that I haven’t seen yet that kinda interested me. It good. 3 and half stars feels a little high it’s entertaining and there some feel good at the end. I’m not 100% sold on the way we got the feel good. There’s a lot not forced but you can tell they is just for story purpose. See more Mark 1d Loved every minute of this movie. Great cast. Will see again! See more Read all reviews
