During her lifetime, Dr. Rajani Thiranagama devoted herself to the cause of social equality in Sri Lanka, a country ravaged by war and death. Her own personal letters, along with interview footage of Rajani's older sister and husband, reveal a strong-willed woman who saw individuals as themselves, not as classes or ethnic distinctions. Viewers are informed of her fateful journey, which withstood violent oppression and civil war -- only to end in murder for the crime of speaking her heart.

Dorothy Woodend The Tyee (British Columbia) Narrated by Michael Ondaajte, this is a finely nuanced portrait of one woman's struggle to bring peace to what she called "her people", which is really all people. Aug 24, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member I can vaguely remember my father talking about Dayapala Thiranagama when I was a kid. But I didn’t realize the story was about his wife Rajani Thiranagama until I reached the end of the movie.. The story is moving and it keeps the viewer glued to the movie until the end.. Yet its slow pace gives time for the viewer to think about Rajani’s life in depth at the same time to give another chance for the viewer to understand how ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka impacts a woman’s life in a true sense..That’s why I really like the pace of the movie simply because it’s typical for the plot of the story.. What makes the movie more intense is that the Rajani’s story is narrated by true characters of her husband and sister mainly.. It gives the viewer a true sense of their ideas and emotions and draws viewer’s attention for them to form thoughts about the fate of a true Human Rights Activist who had a true sense of belonging with ‘her people’.. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a stirring story but executed in a very drawn out and slow-paced manner. I will give it props for its artistic approaches such as the sweeping dramatizations and the soundtrack though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
