Ted B 3.5 stars; Well, this film didn't get many reviews here, and the one critic gave it a thumbs down. I suppose I don't understand why. For a film made 75 years ago in the film noir era, I thought it did an excellent job of keeping the audience glued to the story, wanting to know what happens next. There were some neat twists and turns, such as the robbery in the ladies' powder room, for example. I also liked the way it cleverly turned from a love story to a racketeering con movie, to a "whodunit" mystery, with the ultimate twist at the end. I think the film could easily be released today and recieve good critical reviews. Barry Sullivan gave an okay performance, mostly because of his long experience in this genre, along with Arlene Dahl, who played a stereotypical role as the beautiful love interest. I was really impressed with Jean Hagen, who played the good girl who is left behind. She really added depth to her character in a B-movie environment.
