Audience Member And this director made it big in Hollywood? I don't know which is worse. This, which after all could be clasified as a student film, or Independence Day? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Probably Emmerich's first big Cinema production? Its still in German. it was an ... hmmm..., ok movie. I just don't understand the link between the title of the movie and the story... yes, the space station is called Florida ARKlab... but thats it. 2 1/2 stars because it was good first try. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A student film, which stands up quite well against some of the less-developed professional productions out there. In a way, it seems a shame that Roland Emmerich subsequently went in for making epic trash movies such as Independence Day. Of course, there have been plenty of American films in which a courageous individual takes on the forces of an "evil" government and disobeys potentially harmful orders, but in a German film, this scenario is imbued with a different kind of cultural resonance. If Captain Kirk did it, he'd probably get a medal, but there are no such salubrious consequences here. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Rolands graduation movie. A great piece in low budget set design. Shot in techniscope it comes close to the look of Alien and the likes. A lot of computergraphics are utilised for storytelling and keep the tension surprisingly high. In the end you're dealing most of the time with two guys in one room (the space station). Richy Müller kind of looks like Luke Skywalker and you get the feeling with many parts of the movie: Done great but "borrowed" from the great Sci-Fi movies of that time. A real letdown is the synthetic music. But still, this was the most expensive student movie of it's time and it's still out on DVD and, Mr. Emmerich got some more directing jobs after that... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting concept. Quite a good film, easy viewing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
