Audience Member Very theatrical and the music was played live on the set. Imagine Bernadette Lafont and Geraldine Chaplin as pirates, living on an island, lost in the altantic, and Chaplin bound to avenge the death of her brother killed by the merciless Giulia (Lafont). Rivette did an impressive piece of work and the cinematography is stunning. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Incredibly strange and haunting film, one of the first of his I saw. Women pirates, a hint of the occult. Basically indescribable and almost never shown... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member The most theatrical Rivette I've seen thus far (complete with Act # inter-titles!), and one of the most bizarre films I've seen. It's an anachronistic gynocentric pirate film that combines avant garde theater and Jacobean revenge play. It's shot in gorgeous eurotrash cinematography by William Lubchansky. The idea of having a live band perform the soundtrack in every scene is genius. Take note, Gore Verbinski. This is how you make a pirate film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member See it back to back with Duelle.
