Ben M I read the book and wasn't expecting much, but even so. The book was minimal on physical description and heavy on dialogue. But I was surprised how little these characters resembled the book and even moreso how much of Portis' idiosyncratic dialogue was scrapped -- which really is the only thing that makes the novel noteworthy. It really landed flat and the music was awful. Glen Campbell was personable and about what you would expect, but not especially engaging. In the novel Norwood had more of an edge and his interactions with people were comical because they were absurdly abrasive, whereas Glen Cambell just drifts on through like the good old boy he plays on stage.
