Ken (Noah Taylor) has grown up as an unwilling member of the Seventh-day Adventists, suffering through the summer camps that come with it. Even after abandoning his childhood religion, he remains convinced that the world is on the brink of complete destruction. While working at a college newspaper in Sydney, Australia, he falls in love with Jennie (Miranda Otto) and tries to save her from what he envisions as the city's imminent collapse, by taking her into the mountains.
