A smart romantic comedy that takes place in the local music scene. It's about a guy who got rich quick and then lost it all just as fast, and how he's deeply affected by the two strong women who lift him up after the fall.

Bill P Fun and quirky movie set in Sacramento and filled with local talent that we have enjoyed in various stage productions over the years. We especially loved the character Ryan played by Ben Ismail. He is such a talented dramatic actor and is even more amazing in comedic roles. Some of the characters are over the top but it is all held together by the even and subtle comic performance by Jason Kuykendall as Ben. This was the perfect movie for a quiet holiday weekend at home. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/30/23 Full Review Jodi S After watching this twice, I'm still perplexed with how I feel about it. It made me laugh, it made me ponder, it made me question…there is a lot in this little film. The actors are perfect right down to the cadence and wittiness of the dialog. Enjoyed it! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/21/23 Full Review l p The story was rather simple, and even though it is an indie film, I would've appreciated more character development among all of the characters. The film missed a lot of opportunities to deepen the characters. The movie is written with no demonstrated expertise in the industry itself. There are no scenes in a recording studio. We get no sense of what his job actually is. The staging is too pristine (his office desk looks to be devoid of actual work), The story sets up the courtship of the main guy and girl about a year ago, but then in a later dialogue, they had been dating for 2 years. I'm not sure if I had imagined this. There was also no real introduction to the other girl. I didn't even catch her name till midway through the movie (Melissa). The characters were pretty one-dimensional and the guy is super boring. They missed an opportunity to explain how he had ended up in the music industry (a burned-out software engineer changes his career to producing music because music is his refuge from his miserable job). And we don't get any kind of insight into Melissa's bad relationships. She tells Ben to forget about love, but then tries to get him back with his ex-fiance? There's no character consistency. The actress playing Melissa was a delight as she fully embraced her role. Even with her quirky traits, there were missed opportunities to deepen her character instead of making her the manic pixie dream girl. I did appreciate the twist of romcom conventions with Ben and Melissa. I feel like the movie was written with no real examination on the characters. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Maryann S I loved this movie! I could not get enough of these characters! I just wish there could be a sequel so that Ben ends up with the right woman. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/09/23 Full Review Alan F This was a reasonable movie to watch with my mom who it can be pretty awkward to watch movies with. I appreciated the plot twist that kept it from being another completely predictable movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/06/23 Full Review Peter M Enjoyed the music and the strange and eclectic characters. A fun (and short) weekend watch!
