Now You See Me 2 packs in even more twists and turns than its predecessor, but in the end, it has even less hiding up its sleeve.

Tara Brady Irish Times It's impossible to dislike NYSM2, a big blousy movie that is giddily in love with its own preposterousness. Rated: 3/5 Aug 9, 2016 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Chesapeake Family Magazine Now You See Me 2 is marginally better than its underwhelming 2013 predecessor thanks to new cast additions, but still over-explains and under-delivers. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 1, 2016 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) A needlessly complicated series of bluffs and double-bluffs, which is then unpicked during huge chunks of shouty, self-congratulatory exposition. MovieGoer Was a great film I kind of find it hilarious I’m just now writing my review of this film in 2025. 9 years later however I didn’t know you could write reviews via Fandango. Anyways great film definite watch and honestly hope they make it into a Trilogy definitely worth it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/25 Full Review Jorge M Now You See Me 2 tries to recapture the flashy charm of the first film, but it doesn’t quite stick the landing. The magic tricks are still fun and the cast gives it their all, but the plot gets convoluted fast and leans a little too hard on spectacle over substance. Some of the twists feel more like convenient cheats than clever reveals, and the novelty has definitely worn off a bit. It’s still watchable, just not nearly as impressive the second time around. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/07/25 Full Review Greg A Good movie to watch as you slowly fall asleep. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review Nic S I tuned it for the 1st Now You See Me, and I didn’t like it. We get it - it’s a film about flashy magic acts amidst a heist b-list star premise. But, the cast chemistry didn’t click, there really wasn’t a clear, convincing motivation (for committing these crimes), the storylines and choices didn’t make sense (and were downright dumb and frustrating), and most of all, I just tuned the whole procession out - the big ending reveal really felt like a slap to the face at the end of the day. Coming into the sequel, I had veeeerrryyy low expectations. Surprisingly, HUGE improvements, like it’s almost a different vibe entirely. The film added two much needed, breath of fresh air additions: Jon M. Chu as director and Liz Caplan as one of the leading peeps in the Four Horsemen. Chu captured the true wonder, excitement and thrill of the perfect marriage that is the genres: magic and heist, that really hasn’t been done before, to my knowledge anyways. The hyperfocused camera work and creative choreography for the card security check scene in particular - a masterclass. Liz Caplan’s unassumingly and naturally herself Lula replaces Isla Fisher’s Southern Bell stereotype in this upgrade. Lula doesn’t take these outrageously silly situations seriously and is just a relatable, normal human being, which the team really bounces off of. The cast chemistry finally clicks - it seems like a great atmosphere. We are able to see their individualised skillsets and slightly better personalities instead of their previous one-note, underwritten for cool tricks-sake tropes. The storyline and character motivations actually made sense and was interesting. They cleaned up why undercover FBI agent, Dylan Rhodes, was so invested in jailing Thaddeus for 30 freaking years - undealt with family trauma. Additionally, there were quite surprising plot twists throughout that I didn’t expect and was genuinely welcomed. Instead of sighing and rolling my eyes, I genuinely empathised and felt for the characters, as well as hoped and cheered when they got away. Even the BIG MAGIC EXTRAVAGANZA could have felt once again cheesy and incredibly unrealistic, leaning on the “Cause Magic” side of things. This time around they shot, edited and directed in a way that made their acts seem groundbreaking yet of of this world. They also strayed away from the stage acts themselves and showcased the intriguing and dynamic set-up and execution for various scenarios. I enjoyed myself. I really did. Y’all can check it out - as long as you skip the 1st… please. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/24/25 Full Review Johnathan B. 2 wasnt all that good Hopefully three well top 2, happy too see Fisher back on the team Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/13/25 Full Review Koi P Intriguing and suspenseful. It's fun to try to figure out who is who. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/26/25 Full Review Read all reviews
