Tambay Obenson Shadow and Act Of Good Report represents an exciting shift in the kinds of films currently being made in sub-Saharan Africa by and about black Africans, who appear to be getting more adventurous with genres. Aug 15, 2017 Full Review Guy Lodge Variety Qubeka's third feature, unpolished as it is, [is] a potential industry milestone: a rare attempt to fuse genre playfulness with post-apartheid political subtext. Nov 7, 2013 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's edge-of-the-seat stuff. Rated: 4/5 Oct 14, 2013 Full Review Alan Bett The Skinny The riffs on Lolita are obvious and well referenced, but where Nabokov provoked in prose, Qubeka uses images and angles, forcing us into an uncomfortable complicity. Rated: 4/5 Nov 13, 2013 Full Review Stefan Pape HeyUGuys Of Good Report can perhaps be accused of being a little contrived in its contentious approach - at times being shocking for the sake of being shocking. Kristin E Gruesome and disturbing. The main character doesn't say a word. Make sure you turn on subtitles. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/04/22 Full Review Audience Member I love film noir; I love African cinema; I love black humor. Of Good Report is all three, making it a Triple Noir! No, wait - the film makes brilliant use of negative space (Noir #4): the protagonist never speaks; we're actually never shown the most grotesque violence directly, in the same way that the legacy of black/white apartheid lingers at the edges. It has the shock, wit and energy of Tarantino but without the racism. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is genius ..... it is a modern take on psycho combined with the feel of a spaghetti western thrown in. There is not one wasted scene and the dramatic twists and turns are fast and furious. To categorize this film as focusing on a character that has pedifile tendencies is to miss the boat. This character has deep antisocial and delusional tendencies that coincidentally involve a young girl. I would highly recommend this film to any true film buff particularly if you like clever and surprising plot developments. Nice Job! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
