In 1950s Hungary, Wagner Sander (Gábor Máté) is apprehended by the communist government, who believe he is a spy. Wagner dies in jail, and Payer Zsuzsa (Barbara Hegyi), the wife he leaves behind, eventually falls in love with laborer Gergo Ferenc (Peter Malcsiner) When the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 breaks out, Gergo is taken as a political prisoner, though he had little to do with the citizens' uprising. As his execution nears, Gergo reflects on his own life and his nation's social turmoil.
