Chris Maker directs this ruminative documentary on the Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. Shot late in Tarkovsky's life while he is fighting terminal cancer, this film combines images and film footage without extensive commentary. Since Tarkovsky is very ill, the Russian government finally allows his son, Andrei Jr., to leave the country, and the father-son reunion is captured here. Additionally, Marker shows Tarkovsky working on his final film, "The Sacrifice."

It's the best single piece of Tarkovsky criticism I know of, clarifying the overall coherence of his oeuvre while leaving all the principal mysteries in the films intact. Go to Full Review

I normally really like Chris Marker but here he comes across as just ridiculous at times - Tarkovsky comes across as anything but of course.
