Leah Pickett Chicago Reader The film looks splendid; if only its golden glow and impressive costumes had contributed to something more exciting. Jul 11, 2019 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian A bit of a bum-numbing bore, both overwritten and sketchy at the same time, as it strains to namecheck key historical moments and distribute attention equally in such a way that none of the characters develop more than half a dimension. Rated: 2/5 Jan 25, 2019 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It's essentially Les Misérables without the songs, the important characters or the drama. Rated: 1/5 Jan 25, 2019 Full Review Javier Ocaña El Pais (Spain) The film never agglutinates the lessons and the emotions. [Full Review in Spanish] Apr 5, 2019 Full Review Paula Arantzazu Ruiz Cinemanía (Spain) [Director Pierre Schoeller's] rigorous spirit [is] especially meticulous in the scenes set in the seats of parliament. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Apr 2, 2019 Full Review Demetrios Matheou The List This could easily confound anyone without a strong grasp of French history. Yet, with its themes of national identity and the empowerment of women, it couldn't be timelier. Rated: 3/5 Jan 22, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Un pueblo y su rey [2019] Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Quite disappointed with this movie in its globality. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member If you are searching for an historically accurate movie you need to see this one. It talks about the first four years of the French Revolution in a very illustrative and yet simple way, it doesn't get boring and has its rhythm. The main characters are from the folk, common people who speak a lot about liberty and civil rights (it could seem that they talk too much about it, but at the time it was really like this, like a ''mantra''). There are also famous historical figures such as Robespierre,Louis XVI,Marat and Danton. The speeches they make at the Assembly are the real ones. Maybe, from the cinematographic point of view, the movie isn't perfection, but,by comparing it with others recent historical movies,it reaches its aim very well!
