Audience Member where can i watch this movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Really engaging and beautiful and challenging throughout. I like that this film doesn't stick to genre definitions - weighing heavily on horror elements without ever tying itself to horror expectations. I looked at bodies in ways I haven't before. It was inspiring to see images of the city I live in - usually something that pulls you out of a film, or makes the artifice more clear - but in this case it was strengthening, stating plainly that this place deserves to be seen on screen. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Its a powerful drama and with driven-characters with a brilliant Uelese Petaia at the helm of the film. One Thousand Ropes may be a little too enigmatic and guarded for some tastes but Tusi Tamasese does succeed in bringing all the aspects of the story together and conveying the notion that Maea is at a crossroads. The cinematography captured the tension of the film also. Not my cup of tea though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

David Rooney Hollywood Reporter It combines melancholy domestic drama with spiritual and supernatural elements, and while the latter could have been more robustly developed, a quiet power accumulates nonetheless. Feb 12, 2017 Full Review Kate Rodger Newshub (NZ) There are many strands to this narrative, all woven together in a gentle and very compelling way. Rated: 4/5 Sep 14, 2019 Full Review Carmen Paddock One Room With A View [One Thousand Ropes] elements of magical realism drive home the long-lasting scars left by cycles of abuse without devolving into sentimentality. Rated: 4/5 Feb 19, 2019 Full Review Talei Luscia 4:3 ... a poignant rendering of a Samoan indigeneity, adrift and unmoored in urban diaspora of Aotearoa/New Zealand. Dec 18, 2017 Full Review Francesca Rudkin New Zealand Herald Samoan New Zealand director Tusi Tamasese's second feature, One Thousand Ropes, resonates with the same quiet power and restraint of his award-winning debut, The Orator. Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 23, 2017 Full Review Liam Maguren Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) One of the most intelligent films to come out of New Zealand and Samoa. Rated: 4/5 Mar 23, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews
