Pat H Ordinary Things is a perfectly effective and charming romcom with appealing performances and some good, solid laughs. The faith aspect is handled in such a way so that unbelievers like myself won't feel too alienated, and the dynamics of the plot keep moving briskly along and ensure that the audience is never less than entertained. Sweet and well-judged central performances keep everything on track even when the mechanics of the plot require some serious suspension of disbelief, and you'd have to be a particularly sour kind of viewer to take against the movie. It might be worth giving the trailer a skip and going in cold; knowing the details of the premise ahead of time might take some of the sparkle off the first act. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review James C I'm not really the target audience for faith-based films, but I really enjoyed this one. It mostly comes down to the two leads, who are endlessly charming an fun to watch as their fake relationship blossoms into a real one. If you're looking for a fun, light romcom, check this one out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/22/24 Full Review Kolo P Finally a rom com with a difference! Not only do our characters have to deal with the outcome of their scheme but God is shown to be active and involved in all areas of their lives, making good things out of the bad choices. The real magic of the film was in the two lead characters' playful interaction with each other as they navigate the effect of well intentioned lies and the natural consequences. Overall a well recommended film that doesn’t disappoint. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Artsy A Though it touches on familiar themes like familial expectations and self-discovery, Ordinary Things stands out for its sincere performances, clever script, and strong character development. While it may not be groundbreaking, the film offers an entertaining mix of charm and heart, appealing to audiences looking for a feel-good, yet thoughtful, story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Nicola R Ordinary Things is a sweet movie, beautifully shot. It starts out as a comic farce but takes twists and turns that venture into more complicated emotional territory. The story takes twists that are quite unexpected, keeping the viewer engaged and invested. The use of music here is noteworthy. It's very easy, especially in indie film with its constraints, to use music that feels too heavy or inorganic. Yet all use of music here feels perfectly well earned. The editing is also of note. The pacing is excellent, keeping the film feeling tight throughout. Therefore, the length feels earned - never too long. "Ordinary Things" is a cute indie that would be a great movie-night choice. Definitely recommended. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/26/24 Full Review Ruby C In a world with so much negativity we all could use a story like Ordinary Things. This faith based, feel-good film shows that taking pleasure in the ordinary things shouldn't be taken for granted. Sometimes what we need most in life is right and front of us and in a world where there is so much obsession with being something else and so much competition with our neighbor, Ordinary Things is a reminder that the simple things in life are the ones that truly hold the potential for the most happiness. This is a film for the whole family to enjoy together and one that will give you the feel good feeling that reminds us what true love is. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
