Kevin Maher Times (UK) Stephen Graham is ever reliable as Benjamin, a bare-knuckle boxer and family man who provides muscle and criminal favours for Shannon, an Irish consigliere to the local orthodox Jewish mafia. Rated: 3/5 Feb 18, 2016 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian It's absurd material, very obviously overstretched, beyond breaking point, from its origins as a short. But Graham is as watchable as always, even when working with this tattered script. Rated: 2/5 Feb 18, 2016 Full Review Dave Calhoun Time Out Stephen Graham and Michael Smiley are both strong presences in this gloomy, atmospheric drama. Rated: 3/5 Feb 15, 2016 Full Review Matthew Anderson CineVue Despite his best efforts, and never quite let off the leash, Graham cannot drag this drama up from off the canvas. Rated: 2/5 Apr 8, 2019 Full Review David Jenkins Observer (UK) Only the arbitrary twists come as any real surprise, and even those are mostly geared towards the film's single-minded mission of assuring you that life is a meaningless nightmare of suffering, whichever god you happen to kneel before. Rated: 2/5 Feb 21, 2016 Full Review Stefan Pape HeyUGuys There is undoubtedly a lot to be admired about Orthodox, but you can't help but feel somewhat underwhelmed considering the potentially compelling premise, and the impressive cast assembled to present it. Audience Member It was alright. Stephen Graham's character is immediately likeable, so it makes watching the movie a lot easier than it would otherwise be... The dance between the three (four, if you count the young homeless lad) main players seems like it might eventually lead to something with meaning and substance, but the film falls short in its delivery In the end, "The ever-watchable Stephen Graham isn't enough to save this gloomy and insubstantial British drama" - Leslie Felperin, The Guardian Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Gloomy, violent drama with strong performances from Stephen Graham and Michael Smiley (always at his best playing nasty). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Thoroughly enjoyed this film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a really shit story and at times it is tedious and doesn't even make sense. The performances of the excellent Smiley and Graham makes it just about tolerable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
