arvind s Oru Jaathi Jathakam is director M Mohanan's 2nd collaboration with Vineeth Sreenivasan and Nikhila Vimal after Aravindante Athidhikal. Unlike that, this one is a rare PG-16 comedy that is filled with double entendres throughout the film. Indian cinema doesn't do R-rated comedies anymore. Though this one doesn't go so far, it is the closest we have come in the past few years. Jayesh is in his late 30s and is desparate to get married. But his requirements are impossible to match and he often rejects prospective brides for frivolous reasons. When a bleak future is predicted by a palm reader, Jayesh takes it up to find his suitable bride, come what may. Oru Jaathi Jathakam is the kind of movie that you watch after keeping all your moral values aside. It makes jokes at the expense of anything and everything - from body-shaming to ageism to homophobia. But it doesn't justify or glorify it. It is a character trait of our titular character and Vineeth Sreenivasan aces his crass avatar. Vineeth's performance is the highlight of the film and he is given ample company by his onscreen father played by P P Kunhikrishnan, his boss Babu Antony, Indu Thampy & Chippy Devassy. The supporting cast does a decent job, though there are some that overact for no joy. Oru Jaathi Jathakam will face it's fair share of criticism given the kind of the comedy but there is some kind of justice at the end. Vineeth's latest outing as an actor is a fun watch and is best watched in a group. If you want to have fun time at the cinemas then this is the perfect movie for it!
