Lou Lumenick New York Post Five delightful animated shorts... Rated: 3/4 Feb 10, 2012 Full Review Peter Hartlaub San Francisco Chronicle Proves that it was still a good year for animation, even if audiences were underwhelmed by the mainstream feature fare. Rated: 3/4 Feb 9, 2012 Full Review Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer Magic, whimsy, a fair amount of darkness (loneliness, aging, death, zombie apocalypses) and a wonderful mix of old-school cartooning and digital animation are on tap... Rated: 3.5/4 Feb 9, 2012 Full Review Annlee Ellingson Paste Magazine A consistently strong category that this year once again demonstrates a range of stunning styles from simple line drawings to computer-generated imagery. Feb 26, 2012 Full Review Maria Garcia Film Journal International Pixar's La Luna and the New York-set A Morning Stroll are the standouts in this program of Oscar-nominated animated shorts. Feb 21, 2012 Full Review Geoff Berkshire Metromix.com Not quite up to the standard established in recent years ... still an enjoyably brisk bunch Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 10, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Lincoln K An interesting collection.. ranging from the impossibly dull Wild Life to the more entertaining Morning Stroll. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/12 Full Review Margo B The definite favorite at Hopkins Center last Friday night was "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore." Not a lot of applause for "Sunday" or "Wild Life." What were the other four films shown this this? Usually they have been "Commended" - from the five other films on the short list that didn't get the nomination, but that didn't seem to be the case this year. One was "Nullarbor" - what were the others? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/12 Full Review Cory W Mini-reviews (B) "Sunday/Dimanche"- I liked the animation. Reminded me of Teacher's Pet. Strange, but humorous. (B+) "A Morning Stroll"- Energetic blend of CGI and hand-drawn animation. Proudly and effectively bizarre. (C+) "Wild Life"- Great animation, story fizzles out. (A) "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore"- Pure magic. Very unique. Heartwarming. (A) "La Luna" - Another ingenious short from Pixar. Another charmer. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/12 Full Review Eric B A Morning Stroll is my favorite, but they are all wonderful. Plus, you get to see 4 more that weren't nominated, but are definitely worth watching. See them if you can. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/12 Full Review Xander K The presentation included 9 films (the five nominees and, I guess, four bonus shorts), and I found it...notable...suspicious...that only one had any speaking beyond grunts. Many of them also seemed to deal with death. My favorite was probably the Canadian "Sunday" though each of the five nominees had something going for it. "The Flying Books" and "La Luna" were both gorgeous and "A Morning Stroll" was equal parts inventive, amusing, and messed up. "The Wild" had perhaps my favorite moment as the guy chats with his dog about God's intentions, but it also fell short of it's full potential. The bonus four seemed to mostly be going for laughs, which made them less memorable (though I will likely have the animated Aussie's ass crack burned into my brain for an unfortunate amount of time). Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/12 Full Review Tom A Overall - very cool! Some amazing work - if I had to pick a personal favourite, it would be "The Fantastic Flying Books Of Mr. Morris Lessmore" but many of them were excellent.
