Rated: 3/4 Aug 9, 2023 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ It's a strangely sobering end to a seriously funny film, but also a hint at what McKay would tackle later in the decade with the Oscar-winning The Big Short. Blu B A Classic Buddy Cop Flick. This is a love letter to the cliches of the buddy cop genre, but as much as it wants to be a salute to the regular heroes of the NYPD, this also functions as a commentary and subtle satire of the 08' Great Recession if not more so. (the gags kind of get in the way of any serious love letter for "Other Guys") It's kind of shocking how many subtle nods there are to the players involved. The SEC, Wall Street itself, the after credits, references to all the former corrupt fallen angel companies, and the whole symbolism of the two main characters in a sense. It's very much a product of a post 08' world. Acting is really good here. Whalberg & Ferrall got great chemistry and are your typical odd couple. Johnson & Jackson are amazing and it's a shame they are not in much of this at all. They should've really done a prequel of how those two met as a follow up. Everyone else is really good too mainly because there given really good humor. The humor gets great laughs the entire time. The music is really good too and also gets plenty of laughs from the song choices used. Everything else is solid about it. The action scenes are really good, over the top, and funny because f it. The setting of NYC is also really memorable too with lots of on location areas. One fault with this is there aren't that many visual jokes in this. Some of the shaky cam in the start is really distracting in what would be an amazing scene. The actual financial scheme plot is...alright. It's a bit difficult to follow but I kind of get the general idea. The humor REALLY carries this in the middle when the ho hum plot just kind of prods along until the next action scene which there suprisingly isn't that much of for long stretches. I mean theres the opening with Jackson & The Rock but after that it really dies down and focuses on setting up the plot, humor, and the buddy cop dynamic. It can get a bit jumpy too fitting in the personal drama of the two with the story and the laughs but again the fact it's 90% really funny and got solid direction to boot helps A LOT. Anyone who is a fan of any actors in this, buddy cop movies, the director, or 00's comedies will like this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/08/25 Full Review Ryland C Funny and exciting. I always love a good ass cop movie with a fun case to solve. Good stuff. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review SkyRo P "The Other Guys" is an action-comedy film featuring the talents of Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. I have to admit, I'm not usually a fan of Will Ferrell; he often comes across as unremarkable and a bit dull to me. His performances typically rely on a select few films to capture my interest, as I find him somewhat uninspiring when viewed as an actor rather than just the roles he takes on. However, I have to give credit where it's due. Ferrell manages to engage viewers, even with the silly humor he injects throughout the film. His chemistry with Wahlberg results in a compelling performance that keeps you entertained. Eva Mendes also joins the cast, portraying Ferrell's stunning wife and adding an exciting dynamic to the story. She showcases her comedic talents without being overshadowed by the film’s humor. The lineup is impressive, featuring stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, and Rob Riggle, all of whom bring their own unique blend of action and comedy to the mix. The direction is solid, and the plot flows seamlessly, allowing viewers to witness the antics of the police officers as they navigate their way through a heist investigation. In the end, "The Other Guys" is a hilarious and enjoyable film with a high rewatch value. It's definitely a movie that you can dive into and then revisit later on. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a watch! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Miles F This movie was inappropriate, dangerous, and too wickedly funny... I love it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Pongo K This movie is pure nonsense. Not even remotely funny. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Read all reviews
