Steven Rea Philadelphia Inquirer The Other Side of the Street is full of the stillness, and silences, of a life that's been muted and shut down. Audience Member NY Times did not like this movie. I disagree. Other Side of the Street is an excellent movie with long time Brazilian movie star Fernanda Montenegro (from brazils "Central Station"). Some call it a Brazilian Rear Window but really its a movie about an elderly woman's loneliness. She acts as part time snitch/police informer to fill in the time of her boring retirement. Things happen that cause her to loose control and things happen she could not possibly anticipate. This movie has a mystery and the right amount of melancholy. Some great street view of Brazilian life in Rio De Janiero. Montenegro and Cortez are fantastic in their roles. Four Stars I recommend this movie --its really an excellent movie. Certainly one of the best movies of 2005 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member marvelous, a Brazilian take on Rear Window ... a must see !!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Brave and heartening. Loved the Jewish sensibilities. So human. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Sweet, intense, great dialogues. The type of movie you don't see every day. Fernanda Montenegro as always is unbelievable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Apesar de lento, o filme é muito bem feito e mostra atuações magníficas de Fernanda Montenegro e do já saudoso Raul Cortez.
