Caden C With the previous movie in this sequel exceeding my expectations, I thought, “With a new director, this movie can’t get any better than the original.” Boy was I wrong. This movie opened a new side of me. Definitely recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review TheMovieSearch R Ouija Shark 2 takes everything that was wrong with the first film and somehow doubles down on it, creating an experience that’s even more baffling and incoherent. If the original at least had the novelty of its absurd premise to draw viewers in, this sequel strips away even that thin layer of intrigue, leaving behind a shapeless, tedious mess that feels less like a movie and more like a string of half-baked ideas loosely taped together. The film opens with a surreal monologue from a character who had already died in the first installment, now wandering through some strange purgatory-like hellscape. This choice feels less like a bold narrative swing and more like filler to pad the runtime. Instead of clarifying or expanding the mythology of the Ouija shark, it muddles the story further and distracts from what little narrative momentum the film tries to build. From there, Ouija Shark 2 introduces perhaps its most laughable addition: Tarotgator, a CGI alligator summoned through equally nonsensical means. While this might sound like an attempt at embracing camp or leaning into the absurd, the execution is so poor that it comes across as desperate rather than entertaining. The digital effects are shockingly unrefined, with both the shark and alligator looking like assets dragged from free animation software. Not once do they pose any sense of threat or spectacle—two essential qualities for a creature feature, even a campy one. The human side of the story fares no better. Performances remain stiff and lifeless, with actors stumbling through clunky dialogue as though they’re aware of just how absurd the script is. The editing is choppy, the pacing drags, and the set design feels more like random backyards and living rooms than intentional locations. Any attempt at humor or self-awareness misses its mark, leaving viewers caught between boredom and secondhand embarrassment. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect is that Ouija Shark 2 had the opportunity to redeem itself by embracing its own ridiculousness. Other low-budget monster films have found cult status by leaning into over-the-top absurdity with charm or creativity. Instead, this sequel stretches its flimsy premise to the breaking point, failing to deliver scares, laughs, or even coherent storytelling. In the end, Ouija Shark 2 isn’t just a weak continuation—it actively makes the first movie look better by comparison. Rather than improving on the original’s flaws, it magnifies them, cementing this franchise as one of the most misguided creature feature experiments in recent memory.
