Gerry (Joan Crawford), Connie (Anita Page) and Franky (Dorothy Sebastian) are small-town girls who are seeking wealthy husbands in New York City. But, while Connie and Franky are reckless with their affections -- one bedding a married man and the other marrying a scoundrel -- Gerry is determined to remain practical. As she mothers her wounded, heartbroken gal pals, she stalwartly but foolishly resists the advances of the good-hearted and affluent Tony Jardine (Robert Montgomery).

RICHARD S Actually, not bad for a 95-year-old talkie. With a fairly good plot and an excellent quality print, this will appeal to early cinema and/or Crawford fans, although her acting creaks a bit and reveals a lack of the sophistication and poise that characterized her later acting. (One wonders what made her so popular at this stage of her career.) Montgomery is mature and quite enjoyable in his role. However, the setting for the luxurious tree house is over-the-top unbelievable, as is the silly ending. But, worth a watch for the foregoing reasons. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/12/25 Full Review Steve D The dialog is especially strong. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Audience Member From Joan's shopgirl period she looks amazing but is still relying on some silent eye popping gestures. She must have been deep in EL-O-CU-TION classes at this point so clearly is she working to enunciate ever word correctly. Even with those minor drawbacks she still radiates star quality and dominates the film. Up against her Page and Sebastian don't have a chance of really making an impact though Anita Page has an affecting final scene. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member 3 gals look 4 hubbys in this pre-code early talkie this is #3 in the "our..." series our dancing daughters, our modern maidens'. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Three girls go about men differently and deal w the consequences. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Joan, Anita Page, and Dorothy Sebastian, all three impossibly gorgeous hot-cha flapper types, work in a department store and look for love. Joan is so, so beautiful, and since it's a department store movie, there are lots of those scenes where a bevy of pretty girls model the current fashions, lots of bias-cut dresses and some pretty scanty lingerie. The costumes and set design (a crazy modern treehouse!) are sublime. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
