kevin c Documentary about the importance of 35mm films and the revival theatres that still exist in many major cities that make a living out of screening them. Focuses on the New Beverly theatre in Hollywood that has a rich history in itself. Interviews with staff and some of its famous patrons including Kevin Smith, Rian Johnson, Clu Gulager, Joe Dante and many more. Great documentary. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member URINE JOHNSON BELONGS IN THE TOILET. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Didn't really add anything. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Documentary of revival Cinema around the New Beverly Theater. Most of its appeal is seeing a group of people that are enthusiastic about 35mm film. They made a really good point that movies are not preserved like art is. The Mona Lisa is guarded in a museum and original prints of movies are destroyed since they are expensive to store. Just like vinyl records have made a come back I hope these types of theaters do too. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review john s An unabashed love letter to repertory cinema, "Out of Print" focuses on L.A.'s legendary Beverly Cinema, and serves as a reminder of yet another technology going the way of the Dodo bird: film. Real film. Celluloid. Of the non-digital variety. This doc is one easy watch, as local celebs (Seth Green, David Lynch, Edgar Wright ... the list is long) take turns with glowing cameos, espousing the glory of 35 mm film. The cool retro feel of the Beverly is the perfect stage for hip film lovers to gush fondly over classic double bills, and surprise Q and A sessions with big wig Hollywood types. Pretty cool stuff, warms the hearts of any old timey film watchers, and ensures that the Beverly is on the "to do" list next time we all jetset to La-La land. - hipCRANK Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Educational and entertaining documentary about a special theatre and a passion for film. Johanna Schneller Globe and Mail At 20 minutes, it would have been delightful. At 90, it's fan non-fiction. Rated: 2/4 Jul 8, 2016 Full Review Chase Whale ChaseWhale.com Worth the price of admission. Nov 11, 2016 Full Review Chris Knight National Post The final act turns into a plea for the preservation of 35-mm film stock, which may prove to be a lost cause, but give Marchese props for fighting the good fight. Rated: 3/4 Jul 8, 2016 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews An affable yet thoroughly one-sided documentary... Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 8, 2016 Full Review Norman Wilner NOW Toronto As Out Of Print goes on, it becomes clear that the film doesn't really have an angle beyond honouring repertory culture in general and the New Bev in particular.
