Critics Consensus

Schizophrenic in subject and lackluster in execution, Outlander might have trouble finding the cult audience for which it was built.

A film version of fish and chips - humble, honest fare that's ludicrous, inventive, gory within limits, and has a cast having so much fun it's hard not to be swept along with them. And besides, you can't have nouvelle cuisine every night of the week. Go to Full Review

Sadly, the kooky premise of Outlander solidifies quickly into formula: monster is fought, fair maiden won, kingship gained and past errors redeemed with no real surprises along the way. Go to Full Review

Kronos B Jul 23 Outlander is a wildly entertaining blend of sci-fi and monster movie set in a gritty Viking-era backdrop. The storyline is unique yet simple, making it easy to follow without losing intrigue—a man from the stars crash-lands on Earth, bringing a deadly creature with him, and must team up with Vikings to stop it. The action is brutal and thrilling, with some genuinely gruesome and gory moments that monster movie fans will love. The costumes and sets feel authentic and lived-in, adding to the film's gritty charm. While it’s not aiming for Oscar glory, Outlander knows exactly what it is: a fun, high-energy creature feature with heart, swords, and sci-fi. Sometimes, that’s all you need for a great movie night. Loved Caviezel, Myles and Huston, and especially John Hurt as the Viking king. See more Michael H May 5 As several others have stated. This film is seriously... underrated. The pacing is excellent and the way it combines mythology , fantasy and science fiction together it what makes it stand out. This is what a movie should be suspend disbelief and enjoy. See more Bogdan R Feb 28 A movie that always make me come back to it. I liked when was relased and i still like aprox 20 years later. Bloody, violent with vikings and aliens, what more can you ask. Is not a oscar masterpice but fun to watch when you want to be entertained. I dont get the all negativity arround it, maybe James Caviezel is not for everyone these days.
