While the movie definitely has its fair share of schmaltz, Oy to the World! is generally more sweet than cringey, and the actors seemed to have fun making it. Go to Full Review

STU L Jan 5 The Jewish content seems to be off. If I recall correctly, one of the Jewish characters is seen wearing a tallit (prayer shawl) at an evening service, which is appropriate only on Yom Kippur. Otherwise, it is worn only at morning services. Also, there is an implication that both Christmas and Chanukah are holidays that celebrate love. Maybe Christmas is, but Chanukah celebrates a bloody military victory. Also, why is there no discussion of the problems posed by an interfaith relationship when both partners take their religions seriously? One or both of the partners will have to compromise their religious beliefs. I'm not saying that the marriage would not work, but at least there are things that need to be discussed. In short, the entire plot is fluff that ignores the meaning of both holidays. See more Haley G @HaleyJo Dec 18 Holiday candy trying to be… holiday candy. Unpretentious Christmas buffet. See more Peter D @NJRadioGuy Dec 16 I cannot speak to the issues of Judaism within the film as that is not my heritage. But as a consumer of secular holiday fare who's an extremely lapsed Catholic, this...thing...is just *bad*, and borderline unwatchable. I get it, holiday movies are fun throwaways that, if successful, will make you feel good for about 90 minutes. The premise sounded interesting, but the film itself was just pure drivel that's an insult to anybody with an IQ greater than a small soap dish. The idiotic romantic rivalry story was painful to watch since the leads were just phoning it in, and every stereotype was exploited to its cringy max. By contrast I absolutely loved "Hanukkah on Rye" and "Round and Round." Those were fun little movies with interesting characters you want to root for and a plot that holds your interest. This had no heart, no soul and no love. Hallmark has truly lost its way recently and this is a prime example of that. Stay *far* away from this film.
