In a rural town among the Peruvian Andes, 11-year-old Juan (Antonio Callirgos) chases sheep and plays with his friends, even as a vicious civil war rages on around him. When he discovers his stepfather (Aristóteles Picho) is a Marxist guerrilla solider, he's kidnapped and taken to be indoctrinated by the rebel faction, who teach him how to fire weapons and make bombs. Eventually he's taken back to his hometown to fight in the coming battle there, and Juan must choose sides.

Audience Member Tarata es mucho mejor. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member its a really good movie its sad in the end when they take the kid hostege really really sad but i recomend ppl watchin it Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is a realistic depiction of the Shining Path guerillas, and their methods of recruiting kids into their ranks through kidnapping and force. They embrace their ideology so strongly that they loose their humanity. The army that opposes them use brutal and sweeping measures, so they are hardly much better. The army's cruel treatment of the villagers is probably the best recruiting tool for the revolutinaries. The child Juan is caught between the two groups and suffers terribly in consequence. A powerful movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
