Sophie (Gia Carides) is a romance writer who's used to living out her fantasies in fiction. Her amorous desires get a dose of reality when she encounters Eddie (Anthony LaPaglia), a dashing jewelery thief who says he's fallen for her. But, like one of Sophie's page-turners, their romance has a few obstacles. Eddie is scheduled to get married to his shrewish fiancée, Gloria (Rebecca Gibney). And Sophie hasn't yet revealed that she can't walk without crutches and a leg brace.

Audience Member Hmm what can I say about this movie? it got some nice scenes, and some scenes I dont really think fit in there. Anthony LaPaglia does it well, but Gia Carides... well... is not so good... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member "I can't walk properly. You can't talk properly. We can't make love properly. What kind of relationship do we have?" Among the quotes spoken in a good love scene that one is one of the funniest I've ever heard, given that how is that a couple with weaknesses of their own have a good night together? Sophie is a romance novelist who has been disabled since she was a child and with her broken limb she feigns her infirmity as a skiing accident when she meets Eddie, the man of her dreams. Now that she's thrown herself into an affair there's no telling how far she'll go to keep the fantasy alive. Released on August 15, 1994 (curse the incorrect info saying that it was released three years later) and coming from Down Under, Paperback Romance was one of those films that I had no idea that I was uninterested at first - at least until it appealed to me right now! :) It turned out to be really entertaining and really lovely for all the intimate moments involved that are set against to the fantasies that the writer envisioned. And I liked the story a lot, as there are a lot of ways for me to dream of love again with watching chick flicks as one of them. Performing in her finest of her acting performance Gia Carides plays her Sophie character as a person with a lot of imagination and she puts all of her romantic fantasies well on pace while quoting her provocative of her proses. Overall, I can say that Paperback Romance is one funny, one sexy, and one great romantic movie that really puts one's best foot forward while going to the outrageous of lengths. I recommend it for anyone who loves to watch chick flicks or reads/writes romance books. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member The actor who plays Benny in this flick is a friend. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The stake-out at the end is hilarious. Otherwise, kind of silly and so-so. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A favorite. Anthony LaPaglia is definitely an interesting character in this movie.
