Critics Consensus

Clichéd and unoriginal, Paranoia is a middling techno-thriller with indifferent performances and a shortage of thrills.

Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune There's nothing wrong with Paranoia that a stronger director, livelier leading actors and several hundred fewer narrative conveniences wouldn't cure. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Blu B I feel like this isn't good but it's very overhated. I've seen really bad and fundamentally broken thrillers and this just isn't one of them. The music isn't bad but isn't that memorable on it's own and it can be generic at times. Everythign else is just alright. the first half is the stronger part unfortunately. The biggest problem is there are a handful of plot conviences and twists that just don't make sense. He happened to hook up with Heard at the nightclub and she works for the competitor, the double cross entrapment by Ford, and the triple cross Oceans Eleven style twist by Liam is just ridiculous. It's a major strike against this corporate techno thriller. Any good thriller you can look back and see the twists coming. There is no way a normal human could ever see any of this coming because it makes no sense or is such a million to one chance it's ridiculous to consider. And there isn't anything strong enough to compensate for it. The direction is basic, the acting is all over the place, and the editing while actually kind of good in the first half just becomes so sloppy and muddled as it goes on. The settings are kind of memorable but it just isn't shot well enough to make it memorable and the farfecthed scenes man. Heard is good in this and the only thing that is. Liam is all over the place. Sometimes hes wooden, other times his line delivery is off, or he's forgettable, or good every once in a while. Everyone else is forgettable, or subpar. Skip This. Watch something like The Insider instead. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/25 Full Review Audience Member Don’t waste your time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review James B This movie was okay. Maybe sophisticated film buffs think it's mediocre at best, or perhaps even (gasp) predictable, but this really wasn't a bad movie. I agree it's hard to put on a great performance beside actors like Oldman and Ford, but the rest of the cast did alright. This is about a young tech guy getting in over his head and being manipulated by a greedy corporate head to spy on his rival. Soon enough he realises this and has to find a way out. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/07/24 Full Review Test T Some of this was really cool. Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford were great as the tech boss rivals, but the other characters were not so good, and just too ordinary. I got the impression that amongst the cool scenes, there was a lot of dull everyday stuff included to use up audience time before the ending arrives which squandered much of the films ideas and potential to thrill. Somewhat disappointing overall, but I'm still pleased I watched it. (Oh, and I enjoyed the music) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/16/23 Full Review Jelisije J A very generic stereotypical predictable corporate espionage film.
