The impending demolition of an abandoned prison has the paranormal investigation team “The Skeptic and the Scientist” rushed to spend a locked-in night within the prison’s walls before the wrecking balls start swinging turning the now state historical building to condos. Knowing their channel needs views, team leader Matthew (Todd Haberkorn) funds one last-ditch effort in hopes the device science expert Sara (Paris Warner) has invented will be their ticket to fame and fortune. Along with their sound technician Ashley (Coryn Treadwell), cameraman Jacob (Brian Telestai) and guided by their assigned park ranger, the team recorded everything, hoping to capture elusive spirits. What they captured instead will change paranormal investigation forever, and may have even solved a long-standing mystery.

Dann Gire Chicago Daily Herald The low-budget Paranormal Prison is haunted by low stakes [and] storytelling slog... Rated: 2/4 Mar 9, 2021 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Paranormal Prison is an apt title because viewers unlucky enough to watch this entire movie will feel like they're trapped in a jail cell of unnaturally horrible and repetitive boredom. Audience Member It was like watching a school project... Not sure how I made it through the whole thing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the countless uber cheap found footage horror films, exemplifying everything wrong with the genre while simultaneously being totally forgettable, Paranormal Prison follows an amateur film crew who are investigating spooky goings on in an abandoned prison for, what else, a Youtube channel pitting science against scepticism. Most of the runtime is dedicated to exposition about either the prison, the equipment they're using or the ghosts they're supposedly investigating. The film spends so much time discussing and building up one ghost in particular Mary Beth Flake, and then has her do virtually nothing, besides appearing as a shadow, popping up in front of stationary cameras as if she knows what they are. She's essentially a paranormal McGuffin, since the most tangible threat posed comes from, and I'm dead serious here, an evil mannequin. The twist involving the security guard is seriously weak sauce, since it really makes no difference to the story. Also, for reasons I can't be bothered to work out, the guard is ADRed throughout the entire film, and not once do we physically see him speaking. Every time he says anything he's either turned away from the camera or his mouth is covered. It's pointless to say anything more, because this is not a film worthy of analysis or dissection. It'll be ignored by those who haven't seen it and forgotten by those who have. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm biased, but I happen to love it :) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
