What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although its decision to look at John F. Kennedy's assassination through uncommon perspectives is refreshing, Parkland never achieves the narrative cohesion its subject deserves.

Had Landesman spent a bit more time on his characters and narrative, he might have made a more watchable movie. Go to Full Review

The revelations are unshowy, the emotional clout is stealthy, and JFKologists can rest easy knowing that the project neither engages with nor contradicts their pet preoccupations. Go to Full Review

Parkland remains a bystander in the already overcrowded field of films about the events of November 1963. Go to Full Review

Parkland only works if you see the film for what it’s doing. Landesman is only giving you glimpses of the situation from many different characters and perspectives. Go to Full Review

The film finds its strength in the quintet of lesser known players, especially Zapruder and, oddly enough, Oswald's stoic brother, who's cast in a heroic, almost Kennedy-esque, light. Go to Full Review

What might have made a terrific television series is instead a mediocre - if historically interesting - film. Go to Full Review

Victor O Dec 14 I’m a huge history buff, and there is nothing more momentous in history than the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. I wondered how this story dealt with it, and as it turns out, while other movies lean on the mystery of the assassination, this deals with the ordinary men and women who made history by being its witnesses to it in the days before, during, and afterwards. This was an exemplary film, despite all the years that have gone by, I don’t think there has been a movie that captured the JFK assassination with better class than this. Others have long exploited it, the worst being Oliver Stone’s disgraceful conspiracy film, but this, though subtle, brilliantly depicts it justice. No doubt this was meant for Oscar bait, but it was worth it. A great drama depicting history done right, with plenty of great actors and storytelling. See more Andrew H @PMAndrew Dec 10 I thought the movie was great. It didn't push any sort of narratives, it was just a reenactment of the events that weekend, with a bit of the focus on the hospital as opposed to the focus being on Lee, or Daly Plaza, or JFK's life, which is were I feel a lot of people get lost. What I appreciated about this movie, is how it showed the strain on the Oswald family. Regardless of what you think happened, who you think did it, etc, you have to understand his wife, kids, and brother didn't deserve to go through being outcasted because of it. So that final scene really made this good movie become a great movie. See more Lance U @AquaQuick66 Apr 16 It might be an entertaining film, if it were not so full of BS. So full of BS is this movie in fact that there is a book written about it titled 'Reclaiming Parkland: Tom Hanks, Vincent Bugliosi, And The JFK Assassination In The New Hollywood' by James DiEugenio, and I totally 100% recommend it! 'Parkland' movie gets an F, and the Parkland book gets an A-.
