This documentary depicts the rise and fall of Michael Alig, who arrives in New York City from Indiana and becomes a renowned club promoter. Notorious for their outlandishness, his parties become increasingly debauched and drug-fueled, as does Alig himself. When drug dealer and club regular Angel Melendez is found dead, evidence eventually points to Alig and one of his roommates as the killers. The film features interviews with Alig and others in his world, along with dramatized reenactments.

Refuses to become a preachy treatise on drug excess, opting instead to merely report the events with style, humour and a cast of astonishingly interesting 'characters'. Go to Full Review

Fact-based story of drugs and death in "clubland" is boring and banal, failing in its attempt to shock and scandalize. Go to Full Review

Nickolas S 06/06/2021 I'm obsessed with the Club Kids. See more 02/20/2016 I liked this documentary better than the fictionalized version though I liked that one as well. It seems more raw and honest. See more 07/05/2015 I followed this story in the late 80's. I saw a couple of the Geraldo episodes he was on. Truly a sociopath, drug abuser, killer . See more 06/24/2014 Sad, even before the murder. Yet, I couldn't stop watching - like a train wreck See more 05/14/2014 A rather deep documentary about the Club Kids murder. Featuring not only Alig himself, but many other players including his obviously heroin addicted girlfriend and his mother, who really impressed me by being totally understanding and accepting of her son. Also a pretty good look into the early 90s NYC night life. If you can handle the subject matter, it's RECOMMENDED. See more 02/01/2014 better than the film See more Read all reviews
