Luke Buckmaster Guardian The cast do their best with the material but the scattered structure of the film does them no favours. May 3, 2016 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) Not all the subplots arrive at satisfactory conclusions but, scene by scene, Pawno is an attractively modest, engaging work. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 21, 2016 Full Review David Stratton The Australian An outstanding example of contemporary independent Australian cinema. Rated: 4/5 Apr 18, 2016 Full Review Tim Coleman Total Film Captivates with compassionate vignettes of humanity. Rated: 4/5 Oct 23, 2017 Full Review Nick Dent Time Out Sydney As a portrait of contemporary Australia, it's an antidote to just about everything else out there. Rated: 3/5 Sep 27, 2017 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Although it gets too sentimental in places, especially towards the end, this is an entertaining, bold little film with a clear voice of its own. kevin b Great storylines, which is what I look for most in movies. A love story set in an inner suburb of Melbourne. Really could have been any city in the world. Fantastic Screen writing and Directing and of course an amazing set of Australian Actors. Kevin Bergin Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jacinta w One of the best Australian movies ever. Beautiful slice of inner urban life of cash strapped eccentrics utilising the services of the local pawnbroker shop. Beautiful ensemble casting. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Different, entertaining, deceptively fast moving story line, some great acting, good character portrayals, teaches about tolerance and lives of others. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member About as low budget as they come, but Australian movie fans in particular should support this. A portrait of Footscray portrayed through the operators and customers of a pawn shop. Good fun - seek it out. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member "Not all the subplots arrive at satisfactory conclusions"! Thanks Jake Wilson, Age reviewer. Sometimes life's just like that. Not sure what you were hoping for. The fact that some of the story lines weren't resolved is integral to this film. Definitely worth a watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This could be a film but tried to tell the story of too many characters, 12 in total. There's not enough air time given for us to care about any of them. Because we only brushed on each person it's very difficult to understand what is going on. I think they should have focused on just a few characters and develop the story more. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
