At MyCompanion, the cultured and confident Matthias is available -- for a reasonable fee -- to fill any social role you desire, from 'the perfect son' to the 'enlightened boyfriend', or even 'pilot dad' to impress your classmates at Bring Your Parent to School Day. But while Matthias is at the top of his professional game, his personal life begins to crumble as he detaches from his own identity and burrows deeper into his fictitious lives. Bernhard Wenger's PEACOCK is a biting and hilarious social satire about the masks we wear in the pursuit of human connection.

Kat Sachs Chicago Reader Oct 14
A genuine sense of anxiety, more pronounced than that of Östlund’s films, pervades the story, delivering a stronger message as a result. Go to Full Review

Watching Matthias on the job is entertaining enough, even as the movie’s allegorical ambitions are stymied by a narrative inertia, and by a sneaking suspicion that we’ve seen this sort of social commentary before. Go to Full Review
Guy Lodge Variety 09/01/2024
Wenger’s script is a sly, finely balanced thing, pointedly and often hilariously poking fun at corporate and capitalistic ideals of self-improvement and social coordination, without ridiculing the individuals who feel beholden to those standards. Go to Full Review

Putting together this existential comic puzzle is the always brilliant Albrecht Schuch , who navigates all these roles in a funny and enigmatic way, but also with a touch of pathos and sweetness. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Robert S Oct 30 This little film sneaks up on you, and goes places you will not predict. It's simply great, original, and over-the-top funny. Brace yourself for a delightful ride. In German with subtitles, and some English dialogue. See more Mark G Oct 22 This was an incredible film. If Woody Allen and Ingmar Bergman made a film together, it would probably be this. Beautifully shot, brilliantly acted, and never lazy in its humor. It stuck the landing in the same sort of way as “There Will Be Blood” and “The Swimmer.” My choice for best picture.
