What to Know

Critics Consensus

Pearl finds Ti West squeezing fresh gore out of the world he created with X -- and once again benefiting from a brilliant Mia Goth performance.

Audience Says

Pearl's slightly bumpy plot is no match for the amazing Mia Goth, whose terrific performance takes Ti West's eerie atmosphere over the top.

Christina Newland iNews.co.uk This demented, charming, Wizard of Oz-like horror is all the more disturbing because it doesn’t look like a horror movie. Rated: 4/5 Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Ryan Gilbey New Statesman Pearl wants so badly to be a star. Part of the film’s pleasure lies in realising that Goth already is. Mar 20, 2023 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Goth is riotously entertaining throughout, but two specific scenes, in both of which the camera rests solely on her face for an extended shot, capture the full force of her unnerving talent. Rated: 4/5 Mar 18, 2023 Full Review Julianne Bell The Stranger (Seattle, WA) My favorite part of the X films is their strong aesthetic vision, and Pearl is no exception—drawing on the appearance of early Technicolor and the melodrama of Douglas Sirk films, it's a delightfully campy pastiche. Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Joseph Tomastik Loud and Clear Reviews While I wasn’t blown away by Pearl, I still had a good time and got pretty much what I wanted from it: a deeper understanding of one of the most interesting new horror villains. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 2, 2024 Full Review William Stottor The Indiependent Ti West returns to the X film series with his prequel Pearl, a stylish but uneven snapshot of a young woman’s descent into madness. Rated: 3/5 Sep 3, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Tim O I eagerly waited six months to see this in 2022, after seeing the surprise reveal at the end of X that Ti West and Mia Goth had made a secret prequel. I watched the re-release of X one week ago tonight, and I once again eagerly awaited this re-release of Pearl on the big screen. Mia Goth is just as mesmerizing the second time around. It’s criminal that she wasn’t nominated for this performance at the Academy Awards. Don’t want to nominate a grisly horror movie? Fine. I get that. But SHE should’ve been. It was a tour de force of acting. Now I can’t wait to see Maxxxine next week! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Aaron C A perfect little horror masterpiece!?😃❤️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/08/24 Full Review Janell Very great movie loved everything about it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/01/23 Full Review Luis Far superior than X. Can't wait for MaXXXine. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/22 Full Review Bella This movie was amazing! Had me on my toes and wont stop talking about this movie to everyone that talks to me Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/17/22 Full Review Regina It was good. I didn't like how it ended though.
