Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter Unable to make up its mind whether it wants to be a Pearl Jam concert film or sports documentary, Let's Play Two succeeds at neither. Sep 29, 2017 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com The passion behind its creation, along with the passion of its frontman, allow one to look past its flaws with relative ease. Rated: 3/4 Sep 29, 2017 Full Review Greg Kot Chicago Tribune As an affirmation of one famous fan's dedication, "Let's Play Two" works well enough. As a Pearl Jam documentary, not so much. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 29, 2017 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review It's rare to get what is primarily a concert film to also have such a dramatic story propelling it forward. May 14, 2020 Full Review Frank Ochieng The Critical Movie Critics Pearl Jam: Let's Play Two will bring nothing exploratory or particularly fresh within the realm of concert film documentaries to indifferent outsiders that do not harbor any allegiance to either Pearl Jam or The Chicago Cubs. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Charles Steinberg Under the Radar If you're a fan of Pearl Jam and have never seen them perform live --and absolutely if you think you may not --Let's Play Two is a must view. Audience Member If you're a fan of the Cub's and PJ you'll love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Rare insight behind Vedder's love for the Cubs. And a few standout performances. Had all the feels also. There's no band like Pearl Jam. Will see this again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Highly recommended if you also love Pearl Jam and the Cubs. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Fantastic and magical. Well shot, woven between history, music and sports. Didn't want it to end and will see it again. This Gil give not only great unknown perspective on Pearl Jam and Eddie but also highlight the utter brilliance of what an unreal baseball season it was for the loves Losers of yesterday. Eddie's passion for the team has actually been infused into the franchise and city and in all reality helped lead to the Cubs World Series Victory. An incredible rockumentary you would be mistaken not to go enjoy. I LOVED IT! ?????? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Almost as good as the real thing. If you're not American and/or don't care about baseball, the in-between-songs bits won't interest too much, but it is great to see Eddie so passionate, especially with the flashbacks to 1992 too. Some great renditions and almost a full concert's worth of songs. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I did not go to my local screening of Lets Play Two with any specific expectations except to be treated to some awesome Oearl Jam concert footage. I was not disappointed. It really is unfair to say that the movie can't decide to be a baseball movie or a concert movie because It really is neither. This film is a celebration of a long awaited World Series championship and the deep pride of a native son who, along with his band mates, throws a party for tens of thousands of their closest friends to celebrate. Beng the Chicago native, this easily could have been an Eddie Vedder solo concert but we get an honest sense of just how close the members of Pearl Jam really are when Mike McCready comments that the decision was made to make their two night commitment a PJ show because it "was important to Eddie". The title, Lets Play Two, is a tributed reference to a quote by lifelong Cub, Ernie Banks who once said that it was such a nice day to play ball, "let's play two." This rockumentary is crafted together by mingling footage showing how the Cubs got to the best of seven series against the Cleveland Indians and expertly shot concert footage of Pearl Jam's sold out shows at Wrigley Field. You can't help but join the crowd and sing along to some of the bands best known songs while marveling at the energy and talent of lead guitar player, Mike McCready, the iconic and soulful vocals of Eddie Vedder and the astonishing fervor of the fans who manage to dance/clap/jump in unison despite that they literally fill the stadium. By the end, the pride Eddie feels for his beloved Cubbies radiates with his broad smile. And you leave the theater walking a little taller, a bit of a spring in your step. Every fan of Pearl Jam should see this film. You won't be disappointed. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
