      Critics Consensus

It's pretty and packed with action; unfortunately, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is also waterlogged with characters and plots that can't help but feel derivative.

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review McKenna Most people don't like this one but I loved it ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review Freddy T Es tan pero tan mala, que me he sentido idiota viéndola. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review McKay S I was honestly impressed at how this movie was even worse than the original. With everything from cutting key scenes from the book, to adding random stuff that doesn't even make sense, and even adding Percy's nemesis Clarice, without any context on why he hates her, makes this movie one of the worst I've ever seen. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Piper M Please don't watch this movie if you read the books. It is a terrible adaptation and movie overall, taking a five book story and smashing it into one. They didn't even make a third movie that's how bad it was. I don't even think anyone making this read the book. CGI was bad, plot was terrible compared to the book. They changed the prophecy just to make the age of the characters work. They take Kronos who doesn't even rise till the 5th book and resurrect him as a weird lava thing, they don't even care enough to mention how Grover wanted to find Pan! Not to mention they completely forgot about Circe (which will make it difficult if they wanted to continue to heroes of Olympus) and the sirens. So disappointed, a absolute DISGRACE to the books, doesn't deserve to be called Percy Jackson, and I wish I could rate this a 0/5. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Forged S So, after the disaster that was the first movie, I was worried that this movie would be no better. Color me surprised. Other than a few moments of shoddy CGI and an ending that felt rushed, this was an improvement over the original movie in almost every way. Most importantly, I think, this movie felt believable, something required when considering the outlandish subject material. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Guy Lodge London Evening Standard Scrappy and kind-hearted, with odd flashes of high camp - even if its universe of patchworked Greek mythological elements still makes little sense. Rated: 2/5 Aug 9, 2013 Full Review Michael Sragow Orange County Register Whiny, listless and repetitive. Rated: C Aug 8, 2013 Full Review William Goss Film.com Precious little about this is particularly memorable, but it's the odd touch of local color that makes these routine acts of derring-do a bit easier to bear. Aug 8, 2013 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It seems far too early in Lerman's career for a paycheck film to enter the picture. Rated: 1.5/4.0 Sep 19, 2020 Full Review Greg Evans CineVue Younger audiences may still find themselves entertained by Sea of Monsters, but by slowing down the pace and having some faith in its actors, it could have been so much more. Rated: 2/5 Feb 27, 2019 Full Review Frank Ochieng SF Crowsnest Unfortunately, Monsters is relentlessly derivative and a watered-down sci-fi saga that the tweens and teens will tune out with all the nonchalant gesture of popping a stubborn pimple on their faces.
