      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines takes half-hearted stabs at expanding the world of Stephen King's original story, but they're largely lost in a substandard story that mistakes bland gore for effective horror.

From the acting to the story and the special effects, nothing about Pet Sematary: Bloodlines lives up to the classic book it's supposed to build on.

Me D Very good 60s set pieces, good music... The most important part of this rating though is that this should be the definition of a period piece horror movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review C A This movie makes no sense at all. Kidnapping, wired bomb? Where did that even fit into the plot. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Travis F Just bad. I mean, you know what you're getting into when you turn this on. However, you see it's only 88 mins and you think it'll go fast... nope! Not only are the characters 'classic horror movie' stupid, but was it a goal to include all horror movie tropes... 'let's all split up and check separate rooms... ok'; he/or she is dead, I think we're safe now... nope; the victim is limp running and keeps falling... girl, you just got bit on your arm... get the f up!!! Also, somehow, the director thought it was a good idea to give the 'zombies' super powers... um, why?!?! Also, if Jud is suppose to be keeping people away from the pet sematary, why does the original begin with Jud telling people to bury their dead cat at the pet sematary... boo! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Russell H Boring and not very well acted. Not a lot of scares or even creepiness. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Cota N An unnecessary prequel that adds nothing to the first film. All the kills in the movie are mostly cutaways, other than a few. The characters aren't interesting at all and I didn't connect to any of them. The editing seems choppy at times. Also some, not all, but some performances were not very good at all. A movie that you can skip, even if you're a diehard pet semetary fan. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Megan L Isabella LaBlanc was the only thing I liked about this movie. She's an excellent actress and brought interest to an otherwise laughable film. There were so many inconsistencies and a lack of build-up the entire time. Pass on this one. Brian Lowry CNN.com A crisp and efficient reminder of King’s line “Sometimes, dead is better,” and that occasionally, sometimes prequels are too. Oct 6, 2023 Full Review Alex Welch Inverse Its lack of imagination would be disappointing even if it was a standalone film, but it feels even moreso given its source material’s fascination with the ways in which tremendous loss can alter one’s psyche forever. Oct 6, 2023 Full Review Katie Rife RogerEbert.com Not even the jump scares work, in other words, leaving little but sudden jolts of ghoulish carnage to keep the audience awake. Rated: 1/4 Oct 6, 2023 Full Review Brian Costello Common Sense Media As movies based on or inspired by the worlds and characters depicted in Stephen King's vast bibliography, it's by no means the worst, but it's also nowhere near the best. Rated: 2/5 Nov 30, 2023 Full Review Jorge Loser Espinof While not essential, Bloodlines is an interesting appendix for lovers of the novel... written with some knowledge and curiosity for the backstory of one of the best modern American horror novels. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Nov 1, 2023 Full Review Patrick McDonald WBGR-FM (93.7 FM - Monroe, WI) I'm not a horror guy, but I felt this was in the Stephen King spirit ... it will resonate with his fans. Paralleling it with the Vietnam War was decent symbolism. What does it say when the Peace Corp guy can't leave? Plus Henry Thomas does a King homage.
