See more Teddy B Mar 20 Herbert Brenon's direction of J.M Barrie's source material (that remains as immortal as its titular character) is brilliant and makes for one of the purest escapist experiences and the most effective adaptation to this day. Betty Bronson's Peter Pan is extraordinary. the incredibly achieved special effects (while some are pulled straight from the stage performance (Nana, especially)) make for an incredible transition from stage to screen and the cinematography is criminally underrated for just how crisp and eye-catching it is. I taught English and Theatre and always used this film after reading the play aloud. The film was Americanized. References to Star-Spangled Banner and such instead of God Save the King. Nanna the Dog is an excellent character with a diminutive player inside a fun and functional costume. The Pirates are perfect. There are even mermaids in this one! the Lost Boys return with Wendy and find a home in the Darling's house.
