What to Know

Critics Consensus

Peter Pan & Wendy's obligatory fidelity to the animated classic keeps it from achieving Neverland nirvana, but David Lowery's pensive direction gives this rendition some of its own magic.

Audience Says

Slower and a lot less visually appealing than Disney's animated version, Peter Pan & Wendy lacks the magic of the classic source material.

Peter Pan & Wendy is a puzzlingly bland take on one of the liveliest children’s stories of all time. Go to Full Review

There is swashbuckling and the ticking crocodile and Smee, but the narrative always feels perfunctory and inert possibly because there’s just no spark between any of the characters, least of all Wendy and Peter, who is portrayed as a sulky kind of chap. Go to Full Review

The movie is entertaining and has a professional polish; but it’s also very safe. Go to Full Review

The boy who wouldn’t grow up gets a static, if handsome, do-over in Peter Pan and Wendy, David Lowery’s loving but muted adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s ageless tale. Go to Full Review

In good faith, PETER PAN & WENDY could be operating under a second language where kids could eat this up and grown-ups are left scratching their heads at the things that didn’t happen: thrills, original dialogue, or any swelling of emotion. Go to Full Review

We demand so little of our movies nowadays that most of the “content” coming out, even from high-profile filmmakers like Lowery, feels completely devoid of imagination, whimsy, and human feeling. Go to Full Review

j-dizzle T. @gondorcallsforaid Nov 20 How to make one of the greatest entertaining stories and make it mind numbingly boring. This disney remake figured out how. Rough acting from the main characters. And it felt like there was a representation checklist that this film wanted to prioritize over good storytelling. I gave half a star for jude law cuz he does a good job. Just watch the original See more Ciaran S Oct 7 This Disney live-action remake is an example of why originality is dead. With a lazy story, weak acting, cheap writing, unengaging action & a completely bourne out message of growing up Peter Pan & Wendy is one of (if not) the worst Disney live-action remakes ever made. See more Barnaby B Sep 13 Such a boring and dark adaptation it was a disgrace to Peter Pan See more Aug 17 My least favourite movie adaptation but I still enjoyed it. The movie is dark and sad. It lacks the magic and spark that the Peter Pan story entails. Some of the acting is a bit wooden from Peter Pan and some of the other child actors. See more CaCtI Q Aug 1 I don't understand the bad reviews, I enjoy the OG too, but this movie is just as cool, Peter pan & Wendy is a good movie, literally See more Rob R Jul 25 This version of Peter Pan is dark. Most of the scenery is dark, the sky is cloudy, the landscape is void of trees for the most part and is rocky and barren. This explores the idea of Neverland with the conclusion being that London is a much better place and we should grow up. Living life as a child is depressing. The music is whimsical but that is the only part of the movie that exudes fun or childish giddiness. Maybe this movie is made for grown ups, I watched it with my kids and came away scratching my head. See more Read all reviews
