What to Know

Critics Consensus

Peter Pan & Wendy's obligatory fidelity to the animated classic keeps it from achieving Neverland nirvana, but David Lowery's pensive direction gives this rendition some of its own magic.

Audience Says

Slower and a lot less visually appealing than Disney's animated version, Peter Pan & Wendy lacks the magic of the classic source material.

Colleen Morrissey Chicago Reader Peter Pan & Wendy is a puzzlingly bland take on one of the liveliest children’s stories of all time. May 17, 2023 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator There is swashbuckling and the ticking crocodile and Smee, but the narrative always feels perfunctory and inert possibly because there’s just no spark between any of the characters, least of all Wendy and Peter, who is portrayed as a sulky kind of chap. May 4, 2023 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times The movie is entertaining and has a professional polish; but it’s also very safe. May 1, 2023 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net It’s a gorgeous rendering of a classic. Imperfect and messy, but personal and earnest, as well. Rated: 4/5 Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Sandeep Sandhu We Got This Covered 'Peter Pan & Wendy' is a decent live-action remake stays faithful to the source material as well as its animated predecessor, but that's about it. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 31, 2023 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu Faith, trust and pixie dust populate this tale of magic, mystery and swashbuckling sword fights centred around Jude Law’s conflicted Captain Hook Aug 27, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Silva N successfully brings the classic story to life with stunning visuals and a more emotional narrative. The relationship between Peter Pan and Captain Hook is explored in greater depth, adding a touching new dimension to the tale. A great watch for those who want to see a different side of Neverland! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/04/25 Full Review Audience Member Poorly conceived and sure to anger fans of the original story. To sum up very quickly, this film is specifically written to make Peter look as weak and pathetic as possible and to make Wendy look as strong and vibrant as possible. Why exactly? Politics? Who knows. Furthermore, Neverland is a barren flat grassland with grey skies and every character (aside from Hook) is wasted or just there to provide plot points. None more so than this new third-wheel interpretation of the boy himself (Pan) who is reduced to an awkward... monotone... upper middle class robot with barely any facial expressions to speak of and surprisingly bad posture during any action scenes. Really sticks out and makes the film feel inauthentic compared to the 2003 Peter Pan (which is leagues better) The one interesting idea is that Captain Hook was once a lost boy himself betrayed by Peter, which in turn makes Hook the most fleshed out character. In summary skip everything else and give the Jude Law scenes a watch on youtube. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Vicenzo C Peter Pan & Wendy is one of the few Disney remakes that actually stick. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Alexander S Though shot nicely, Peter Pan & Wendy is forgettable, soulless, and lacks purpose as we’ve had numerous animated and live-action Peter Pan films before, so this one doesn’t offer anything new. It’s just another trendy Disney live-action remake with a touch of contemporary political commentary that would’ve been more effective if the film had felt more original. Grading: D- Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Jeff D Looks like it was written by (and the visuals generated by) AI. Bland retelling of every other live action Disney remake. It showed no understanding of J. M Barrie's novel with a formulaic plot that did it's best to swap the characters of Peter Pan and Wendy, with of course Wendy being able to out fight, out think and out magic Peter Pan. Peter isn't the representation of all the best and all the worst of cocky maleness that he is in the book and earlier films, instead he is a milksop that needs to be rescued and put in his place by the female characters. Wendy is no longer the sensible, maternal, thoughtful person who shows the lost boys that there is more to life than staying as children, but is instead an all action future leader only surpassed by Tiger Lily who is all action perfection personified..and is probably hard drinking off camera. Dull, Dull, Dull and the children I was with got bored after 15 mins. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Stephen S I do not know what this is, but it is not Peter Pan whatsoever. Insulting, yes. Not a scrap of entertainment, but insulting. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/25 Full Review Read all reviews
