And in a movie season dominated by brainless action flicks and big explosions, Phenomenon is something magically different. J S This is a lovely and surprising movie that is filled with deep lessons. Although on the surface it is an entertaining and well-acted but somewhat saccharine tale, it nonetheless offers profound insights for those with eyes to see. Its message is one of love and hope, as it challenges each of us to open our hearts to the unity of being, and of the power of trust and love to lead us to new ways of being as individuals and as a community, and by extension as humans. The film is probably seen mostly as an allegory, but it is truer and more grounded than most know. Those spirits (or aliens, call them what you will) who change George at the beginning of the film are real, and these really are their messages. Ultimately this movie is an invitation to evolve, as George does, and as he invites others to. It has a sacred heart beneath its Hollywood hood. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/13/25 Full Review Cr3ms0n N I watched this in 2025 so it was hard to give it a proper rating. I think I was fair in the end. Without giving too much away. The twist was nice and still good. I guess I am spoiled because it was used a ton in movies later on but watching it back then, the twist probably hit hard. The movie could've went in many directions and I liked this one. They didn't went too crazy. And the main point I can't remember to be used, chased after or explain more in depth in any other movie than this. So in a way it was a refreshing thing even for an old movie watched in 2025. The ideas that were mentioned even back then I was surprised because they really might be out of this world at that time. Some of them we start using maybe a decade ago so think back 30 years back. :D Its an friday night chill movie but be ready for drama and sadness that might come out of nowhere. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/25 Full Review James B I've watched this movie a few times over the years, and every time I see it I enjoy it. So many good lessons from this one. If you are looking for a feel good but tear jerker of a movie then look no further. Robert Duvall, John Travolta, and Kyra Sedgwick are amazing in this one. A great, great movie! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/27/25 Full Review Audience Member A different take on the “Flowers for Algernon” story. For what it’s worth, I enjoyed it quite a lot. 4.5/5 stars. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/25 Full Review Horror fan 4 One of my top 10 John Travolta movies. The performances were great. I love the story of a simple farmer turned genius and the remarkable journey we take will him as he uses those brains for science and love. Tim Treakle Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/02/25 Full Review Rokas K This is one of my favorite movies with John Travolta. It's a fantasy drama about a man whose mental abilities suddenly increased significantly and about the problems he has with it all the time. Not every subject touched upon was well developed and I wanted more from the movie (especially from the fantasy side, his mental abilities or even the threats to him), but I would still say that it was really good.
