This film focuses on the rags-to-riches ascent of Edith Piaf, who would become one of the great French female icons and singer of such classics as "La Vie en Rose." Born in a squalid back alley, Edith Gassion (Brigitte Ariel) spends her childhood at a brothel and singing on the street, where she is discovered by Louis Leplée (Guy Trejan), a nightclub owner who nicknames her "The Little Sparrow." When he is murdered, her hopes seems dashed -- until lyricist Raymond Asso becomes her advocate.
