Daniel M. Gold New York Times James is aimless, charmless, unreachable; it's hard to tell whether he is meant to be a cipher, or if Mr. Morton is simply not up to lending him depth. Rated: 2.5/5 May 9, 2013 Full Review Rob Humanick Slant Magazine It aims for a sense of soulful introspection that instead comes off as an unwitting parody of languid indie conventions. Rated: 1/4 May 8, 2013 Full Review Nick Schager Village Voice So little occurs, and so little seems to be at stake, that the action takes on the quality of a tossed-off, not-especially-melodic country-music ditty. May 7, 2013 Full Review Patrick Felton Battleship Pretension Despite its lack of compelling storytelling, the film has numerous moments of surprising honesty. Mar 10, 2021 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International Tedium on the Trail could be the alternative title for this logy trek through the woods. May 17, 2013 Full Review John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) The film makes the most of the natural widescreen wonder of its Appalachian forests and mountains, and its sense of isolation is a welcome change from the familiar urbanism of most mini-budgeted features. Audience Member Interesting natural and naturalistic story. Slow moving at times; the characters were convincing if not particularly likable. A story with tensions and conflict that are commonplace yet still poignant may not be for everyone. For me, though, this film is a welcome change from the hyped up violence and over-the-top melodrama that typifies so much of our current entertainment. The scenes of the Appalachian countryside are lovely, and again, while not normal travelogue material, gives the viewer a feel for the region.
