Katie Walsh Los Angeles Times For all its bloody and violent genre trappings, "Pilgrimage" is a gorgeously shot film that carefully renders the details of this fascinating historical period. SkyRo P I decided to check out "Pilgrimage" primarily because it features Tom Holland. I enjoy following the careers of certain actors to see how they evolve from their early roles to the megastars they become. So, I was curious to see this film. The screenplay turned out to be better than I anticipated. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be, and the director did a decent job of engaging the audience with the material. However, there were moments where the film felt a bit flat, and it missed opportunities to build tension or develop the story in ways that would have kept me invested. Overall, the film was fairly average. In fact, I honestly forgot I had watched it shortly after it ended, and it’s not something I feel compelled to revisit. It didn’t quite capture my attention or maintain my focus throughout. I think there were missed chances for stronger directorial choices and a more detailed screenplay that could have elevated the narrative. At the end of the day, "Pilgrimage" is what it is—nothing extraordinary. I wouldn’t recommend it enthusiastically, but if you need something to fill the time while you multitask, it’s suitable enough to have playing in the background while you cook or tend to other things. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review Helen W Obsure but worth every second of viewing. Excellent casting, script, screenplay, music, scenery, acting, and historical setting. Excellent! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/03/24 Full Review Ava S Though short, the environment of the movie with the added lingering sense of danger and silent hope makes this an entertaining story. Holland, Bernthal, Weber, and Armitage are all fantastic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/26/22 Full Review jorge v Very slow movie with a very vague ending Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review jelisije j Very good performances from everybody and a solid script. This movie really makes you look at faith at what god wants and what you want from god. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Though critics argue that it's fairly pointless, I think they missed the point. All this violence over a rock? It features some stellar acting work, not to mention beautiful cinematography and sound design. It drags a little bit, but tells the story it sets out to.
