When the coach of a French soccer team is killed, his ring featuring the legendary Pink Panther diamond goes missing. Luckily, Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Kevin Kline) has a plan: assign his most intelligent, most driven officers to track down the thieves in secret, while publicly assigning the bumbling Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin) as head of the case. Clouseau seems hopeless, until his various mistakes and misjudgments miraculously put him on the real killer's trail.

As for Martin, no matter how many he times he stumbles, fumbles, burns his balls or mispronounces the word hamburger, he never gets close to making the Clouseau persona his own.

Why do people take the rating of this film seriously? Come on! It's as silly as it should be. You don't watch this movie for the plot! It's like watching Dune for the comedy value, Mad Max for the rich monologues or Alien for its dancing scenes. If you want to have a laugh, watch it!

Steve Martin took this for the money. There is no comedy in it. It is just a guy being goofy for no apparent reason. Middle school children would like it as it is their type of humour but it is on the bottom of Steve Martin's great work.

Why in the world does this film have 21% this has got to be top 10 movies of all time. It's a goldmine. Watch it on Netflix or Tubi, great piece of cinema! 5 stars. God bless.

A lot of folks (myself included) felt the Pink Panther movies should not have been remade. They are classics and Peter Sellers is deceased; leave it alone. Having said that, I recently watched this for the second time and I've got to say - it's very funny. If you're reviewing this comedy on its merits alone, it's pretty good, and one of these days I'll watch it yet again. (But for now I'm going to go back and watch an old one!)
