What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though Steve Martin is game, the particulars of the Inspector Clouseau character elude him in this middling update.

Empire Magazine Rated: 2/5 Dec 30, 2006 Full Review Anna Smith Time Out The plot, needless to say, is negligible. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Matthew Leyland BBC.com As for Martin, no matter how many he times he stumbles, fumbles, burns his balls or mispronounces the word hamburger, he never gets close to making the Clouseau persona his own. Truth Y It's a masterpiece! Hilarious, the stunts Martin does looks so real and not like waiting for a mark. Sellers is amazing for sure I like both almost equally but Martin does a better job at acting and stunts along with acting a fool but being the smartest inspector almost like he has to be a fool to know who did the crime over anyone else. I don't understand the hate for this movie and Martin, this movie is absolutely a masterpiece! It has you guessing the whole movie who done it like a Agatha Christie Novel while being hilarious none stop. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Jim J A favorite and much better than several of the Peter Sellers/Blake Edwards films. Great fun! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/24 Full Review Hannah P One of the most nostalgic movies of my childhood. Steve Martin is a comedic genius. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD recently and I really enjoyed it. Steve Martin is great playing Inspector Clouseau, because he knows how to deliver a funny line, and he is brilliant at physical comedy. It's Steve's performance which makes the difference in this movie, although the supporting cast are all good too. I always thought the original 1963 movie was a little of an acquired taste, but this one is much more fun and accessable for a mainstream audience. I thought the story was good, and it was paced just right to maintain the viewers attention. I also liked seeing Beyonce playing the singer. Even the credits at the beginning are fun, based around the Pink Panther cartoon. Highly recommended. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review Jeff Why would they make this. Clusoe is Peter Sellers. This is atrocious and deeply less funny while trying to make the same humour. It has tragically led people of a younger generation to think that this is the pink panther. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Alec B No where near as bad as its reputation. In actuality the movie is mildly amusing eliciting a lot more laughs than the last three Panther movies that Blake Edwards made combined. Also, Martin is clearly having the time of his life as Clouseau. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews
