TV Guide Staff TV Guide This is well animated, but nowhere near the quality of Disney. Rated: 2/5 Jan 22, 2019 Full Review Tony Mastroianni Cleveland Press Youngsters being as hip as they are about space shots and stuff will find fun in this full-length cartoon. Any nostalgic pangs about departing from the Collodi script will be felt only by a few adults and the movie isn't for them anyway. Bucky R Pinocchio, hypnotism, space whales, what else do you want? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Audience Member Like the earlier reviewer, Pinocchio in Space was as early and positive science fiction experience for me. In 1964 the New York World's Fair was just beginning with all its future exhibits, the space race was heating up and I was watching Astroboy. It was a great time my imagination was ignited. This film helped do that more. The theme of a destroyed but great culture undone by its technology gave me the willies. Giant creatures jumping out at me was a new experience. Back then I had not seen Forbidden Planet but seeing it now the walk through towering Martian technology is strongly reminiscent of the still functioning Krell laboratory of the 1955 classic. Even some of the sound effects are similar. I also find it fun that the film makers tried also to be educational by adding various space facts while admonishing children to apply themselves to school. In short it was a lot of fun, especially Arnold Stang as "Nurtle the Turtle" an alternative to Jiminy Cricket. I can not say all the shows I have heard his voice in. Of course the film also improbably mixes in fantasy and magic, including a whale who can propel himself through space with his spout. But for me it worked. Probably a bit dated for older kids today but the young and the young in heart will still enjoy this animated morality tale. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a movie where giant martian crabs battle dinosaurs. Unfortunately this is only a minute of the moive. The rest is about Pinocchio running around space and exploding stuff. It would be awesome if it wasn't incredibly boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Without a doubt the worst animated film of all time. The plot is absolutely assinine! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is about Pinocchio learning hypnotism to defeat a space-whale and save the planet. It was one of my favorite movies as a child, which may indicate something about my state of mental health. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Somehow I had a copy of this as a kid. It's very surreal and bizarre. Kind of fascinating but in an unplesant way.
