It’s like the Scary Movie franchise did a splatterhouse Last of the Mohicans skit. Go to Full Review

[T]here are hints at the cat-and-mouse game the plot could have been. What we get instead, though, is mostly unconvincing and dull. Go to Full Review

There are little flourishes throughout the film that will endear it to anyone raised on 2000s direct-to-video slashers. Go to Full Review

James Kondelik’s Pitfall is a decent survivalist horror/thriller. With a script co-written by Victor Rose, the film plunges the audience into a story about shared trauma, death and overwhelming grief, and recovery. Go to Full Review

KK Jun 5 Based on RT reviews, I decided to check this one out. While okay, all these 4 and 5-star ratings are unwarranted. This was an average slasher thriller, at best. There is some weak cgi. Yuck! While the premise is engaging, the execution of it entirely is muddled. I did appreciate the characters, along with the acting from them. The antagonist (Randy Couture) says little and instead huffs, grunts and trods throughout, which quickly became tiresome to me. Normally, I like the bad guys (I’m weird lol), but this one I wanted vanquished asap. Collider called it Michael Myers with a bow & arrow—that’s certainly laughable!! No it’s a low-budget movie with cheap jump scares, crappy music ambience and an annoying forest rampager. The movie is littered with nonsensical situations and solutions—especially in the 3rd part. For me, the acting is what saved this movie from being a total disaster—especially Lars. Well done Lars! But everything else, including the incessant whining and depression, only became more grating as time went on. And the truck, how many times are you going to show snippets of the truck!?!? It’s ridiculous. But it’s not the worst movie I’ve seen this year. Still, stay away! See more Tom May 30 Awesome early summer survival horror jam See more Evan A @RT64705377 3d Pitfall manages to be a slasher film that works given its direction and narrative. In this film, you actually care about the characters and what happens to them, while finding yourself becoming immersed in their past traumas. The film makes Wrong Turn look like a walk in the park given its use of effective, gnarly kills that at times come out of nowhere when you least expect them to. Furthermore, the performances were all top notch and kept the viewer invested throughout the entire runtime. This is an example of a slasher done right and is worth checking out. See more Ads T @AdamJ83 6d Pitfall has the elements to be a good outdoor slasher film, but it fails in so many ways. The characters weren’t likeable and their story seemws confusing. Like why were two grown adults travelling with their parents? Just so many questions to the writers as to why things were. So many things that didn’t make sense. One scene in a forest of pines, the villain was spotted in a big sprawling Oak tree. So dumb! See more bbprod01 T @RT24831263 Jun 30 We got actors who I love and an engaging premise that seemed like Wrong Turn meets Most Dangerous Game. Unnerving and unsettling. Director James Kondelik makes a beautifully filmed majestic forest come off as terrifying. This is Jaws for the camping crowd. The writing is outstanding during the slow burn first act where we meet the amazing characters. The problem with characters this good is it's rough to watch them get killed and one of those kills was so brutally well done it had me in tears. The action begins when one gets separated and falls into the title #Pitfall trap impaling his leg while the rest futility search for him, unaware that they are prey being stalked by a sadistic hunter. The pit scenes are intense in a claustrophobic nature. The pacing is good despite the film being a bit too long and the slow burn suspense ignites into a violent, carnage filled inferno by the last act with so much edge of the seat, nail-biting suspense going on all at once. Just a great film! See more Abram A @AbramAntler Jun 30 If you need a great summer horror film, watch Pitfall! Many recommendations abound for certain, but James Kondelik definitely knew what he was doing from the very beginning of the film. He is joined by Victor Rose who wrote the screenplay and producers Alex Bogomolov and Wei Sun Cheng who are all master storytellers and get the storyline to make something that adds more depth to movies like the Friday the 13th franchise and even other thrillers like the Wrong Turn series which makes camping trips more anxiety-provoking than they already are. But still more impressive is the cast that includes Marshall Williams, Richard Harmon, Brenna Llewellyn, Alexandra Essoe, and the villain, Randy Couture and just to name five actors. Every actor, however, deserves mention as they not only keep the backstory going of a family forever marred by a tragedy, but forced to keep going forward even as they are being hunted down.
