Dusty, the famous racing airplane, learns that his engine is damaged, so he must shift gears and find a new career. He joins an elite corps of firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park. Planes: Fire & Rescue is a noticeable improvement over the first film, even if it still struggles to capture the true Disney magic that defines the studio’s most iconic classics. Dusty is an enjoyable main character, but he never quite reaches the timeless status of legendary animated heroes. This sequel benefits from a stronger premise, shifting from racing to firefighting, which gives the story more heart, higher stakes, and a clearer emotional journey. The supporting characters are colorful and energetic, adding charm and variety to the world, while the environments feel more alive and visually engaging. However, the screenplay occasionally feels rushed, and some emotional moments don’t land as powerfully as they should. While it doesn’t fully soar to classic status, the film is fun, sincere, and entertaining, making it a solid, family-friendly sequel that’s easy to enjoy.
