50% Tomatometer 30 Reviews 46% Audience Score 100+ Ratings New York sportswriter Mack (Gina Rodriguez) has spent years devising successful hook-up "plays" with best friend Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.) and their crew. While it has led to countless one-night stands over the years, following their playbook comes with a strict set of ground rules -- chief among them: you can't build a relationship from a play. When Mack unexpectedly falls for her latest target, charming war correspondent Nick (Tom Ellis), she begins to rethink the game entirely. As the lines between work, fun, friendship, and romance begin to blur, Mack must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to playing for keeps. Read More Read Less Watch on Netflix Stream Now

      Critics Consensus

Players proves Gina Rodriguez remains a thoroughly charming lead, even if those charms aren't quite enough to compensate for a frustratingly predictable plot.

Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is a rom-com where all the emphasis is on comedy and not so much on the romance, for sure. Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com Nobody should expect too much of a movie in this genre released on Valentine’s Day, and grading on that curve, “Players” happily punches above its weight class and exceeds expectations. Feb 19, 2024 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune Players is a perfectly fine — occasionally better-than-fine — romantic comedy starring well-known TV actors who know their way around this kind of material. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 15, 2024 Full Review Rachel Wagner Hallmarkies Podcast Entertaining little rom-com Jun 1, 2024 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal Unlike the interrogation-room scheme of most streaming romantic comedies, it's lit like a real movie. It’s the nicest thing to say, as the exertion Rodriguez and Wayans exhibit to even keep this watchable will just make you wish they had different agents. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 10, 2024 Full Review Wade Major FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There is some real sweetness to it... Even though it didn't totally work for me, I'm going to assume it will work for its target audience. Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

John P This is the worst thing I’ve ever watched. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review Quora Q Started great but unfortunately ending boringly- it was obvious who would end up together. They used so many lines from ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ that it began to feel like a shabby remake. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Audience Member Just a really bad movie with bad morals and nothing to it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Matt P I could only endure the first 18 minutes of this ethically repugnant and witless rubbish... but teens with an emotional I.Q. bordering on sociopathy might enjoy it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review jane r Sorry but found this really hard to watch. Obviously, I hadn't realised that this was geared to teens. Was hoping Tom Ellis had a more interesting role worthy of his talent. He must have been asked to be in this to create audience views. Actors were good, but plot so immature, who acts like this not even teenagers surely? Net flix does do some filler movies and this was one of them. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Kd O I love Gina Rodriguez in "Not Dead Yet" so I gave this a shot. It's a lot better than I expected, given the reviews. Better named "The Wingmen", the main two twists that made me rate this a strong B+ is due to the writing and Gina's great acting. Not to downplay the great acting by the rest of the cast, but I recognize no one in this movie other than Gina. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced romp. If you like rom-coms, watch this! ❤️ Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
