      Critics Consensus

Players proves Gina Rodriguez remains a thoroughly charming lead, even if those charms aren't quite enough to compensate for a frustratingly predictable plot.

Matt P I could only endure the first 18 minutes of this ethically repugnant and witless rubbish... but teens with an emotional I.Q. bordering on sociopathy might enjoy it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review jane r Sorry but found this really hard to watch. Obviously, I hadn't realised that this was geared to teens. Was hoping Tom Ellis had a more interesting role worthy of his talent. He must have been asked to be in this to create audience views. Actors were good, but plot so immature, who acts like this not even teenagers surely? Net flix does do some filler movies and this was one of them. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Kd O I love Gina Rodriguez in "Not Dead Yet" so I gave this a shot. It's a lot better than I expected, given the reviews. Better named "The Wingmen", the main two twists that made me rate this a strong B+ is due to the writing and Gina's great acting. Not to downplay the great acting by the rest of the cast, but I recognize no one in this movie other than Gina. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced romp. If you like rom-coms, watch this! ❤️ Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Kris M Great way to spend an evening watching a fun movie with the great Gina Rodriguez and all the other actors/actresses that made this a very fun romp. It ain't Shakespeare, but who cares! It was highly enjoyable. We need fun, light diversion during these times. MAKE ALOT MORE OF THESE MOVIES! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review As K Worst movie in the world 🤮🤮🤮👎🏼 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review Caitlyn M I thought this movie was great, You can feel the chemistry between the actors. It feels real. Even though the love story was predictable it still felt fresh and kept me watching throughout. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Amy Nicholson FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is a rom-com where all the emphasis is on comedy and not so much on the romance, for sure. Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com Nobody should expect too much of a movie in this genre released on Valentine’s Day, and grading on that curve, “Players” happily punches above its weight class and exceeds expectations. Feb 19, 2024 Full Review Nina Metz Chicago Tribune Players is a perfectly fine — occasionally better-than-fine — romantic comedy starring well-known TV actors who know their way around this kind of material. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 15, 2024 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal Unlike the interrogation-room scheme of most streaming romantic comedies, it's lit like a real movie. It’s the nicest thing to say, as the exertion Rodriguez and Wayans exhibit to even keep this watchable will just make you wish they had different agents. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 10, 2024 Full Review Wade Major FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There is some real sweetness to it... Even though it didn't totally work for me, I'm going to assume it will work for its target audience. Mar 4, 2024 Full Review Matt Pais MattPais.com There are so many reasons to be discouraged by “Players” that it’s hard to know what to feel most bummed about.
