Audience Member Plutonium Baby is pure bottom of the barrel 80's ultra-low budget cinematic cheese. Though the film was released in 1987, it almost feels as though it was actually made in the 70's, but thankfully the cornball 80's music clarifies any sort of confusion. Plutonium Baby gives its audience 2 movies for the price of one as the first 40 minutes shows young Danny (normal but nuclear infected kid that swallows whole fish) uncovering a radioactive canister containing his long dead mother's locket, which is the key to taking down the evil government agency she worked for. Before word can go public, evil government goons (dressed in local, redneck clothing) come out and try to kill Danny and his grandpa, not to mention some local teen campers, but everyone starts getting killed one by one by Danny's mutated mother until all that remains are two surviving campers and Danny. The End. Now, for the second half, 10 years have gone by and Danny's chemical imbalance starts to catch up as he slowly begins to mutate. The timing is perfect though as the lead villain who was locked away in a radioactive canister in the first half has now been freed and begins his deadly journey back to NYC to kill Danny and the other survivors. As far as terrible filmmaking goes, Plutonium Baby takes the cake, but like other ultra-low budget semi-cult classics like Don't Go Into the Woods or The Forest, Plutonium Baby has a certain charm to it that's undeniably corny, but fun. I would only recommend this to true horror purists or those looking for lots of laughs. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
